After a big renovation, Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich will open its door in the heart of the city this December, combining historical charm and modern luxury.
The iconic property located on the famous Paradeplatz was Zurich’s first grand hotel. Founded by the journeyman baker Johannes Baur, it welcomed guests as Baur en Ville on 24 December 1838. A few years later, Baur opened another hotel, known as Baur au Lac. Throughout history, many notable figures stayed at Zurich’s oldest grand hotel, among them German lieutenant general Friedrich Wilhelm von Bismarck and Hungarian composer Franz Liszt. Located in the heart of the city, guests are only steps away from high-end fashion houses, the historic old town, the charming promenade leading to Lake Zurich and the prominent Bahnhofstrasse.
Design and Interiors
Parisian-based interior designer Tristan Auer curated the interiors that combine historical charm and modern style. By using a carefully selected color palette, he mirrored the hotel’s surroundings in its design elements and materials. The hotel comprises 44 rooms and 36 suites, including a lavish four-bedroom apartment spanning 275 square meters. Many of the accommodations offer balconies, terraces or private rooftops, presenting breathtaking views of the city’s landmarks and the Swiss Alps.
