Surrounded by the Alps, the four-star superior hotel Belvedere in Grindelwald offers a peaceful retreat. Editor-in-Chief Marina S. Haq stayed at this alpine gem and shares her experience.
Opened in 1907, Hotel Belvedere is now in its fourth generation under the Hauser family. For over a century, the hotel has welcomed visitors from Switzerland and abroad. With 56 rooms offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including the Eiger, the Wetterhorn, the Finsteraarhorn, and more, Belvedere has received numerous awards. Among them are the Traveller’s Choice Award “Best of the Best” by TripAdvisor and, for the 14th consecutive year in 2024, the Traveller’s Choice Certificate of Excellence. Additionally, Belvedere is a member of the French gourmet association “Chaîne des Rôtisseurs” and “Swiss Quality Hotels”.
Ambiance
The hotel is a cozy retreat in the Alps, making it a perfect getaway from larger Swiss cities. Surrounded by majestic mountains, it offers a serene atmosphere. The owners and staff enhanced my experience with their friendliness and helpfulness throughout my stay. There are several delightful spots to enjoy the tranquility the hotel provides, whether in the bedroom, the lobby or the terrace.
Upon entering the lobby, you’ll notice a crystal, specifically smoky quartz, placed prominently. This crystal was discovered in a crevice at an altitude of over 3000 meters in the Galmi region behind the Finsteraarhorn. Smoky quartz is known for promoting joy, a positive outlook, calmness, as well as endurance and patience in stressful situations. The presence and significance of this crystal reflect the ambiance of this charming hotel.
