The new limited PICTO collection by Micasa, created in collaboration with SBB and Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, offers everyone the opportunity to bring a piece of iconic Swiss design into their homes.
Swiss Furniture retailer Micasa launched a limited-edition collection created in cooperation with SBB and the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. The limited-edition PICTO collection comprises 55 home accessories and small furniture pieces – all featuring the pictograms that Josef Müller-Brockmann designed for SBB in the late 1970s. Form and functionality are determined by Müller-Brockmann’s pictograms: the pictogram for parking can be found on a cube-shaped stool, the one for the lost and found office on storage boxes and the fire extinguisher pictogram on a coaster. Much like the pictograms themselves, the small pieces of furniture and home accessories feature a clear, minimalist design language.
Iconic Design for All
The pictograms designed by graphic artist Josef Müller-Brockmann for SBB are considered a Swiss cultural asset. Created as part of the visual information system, they have adorned Swiss railroad stations since 1980. Every child and every adult is familiar with these radically reduced, geometric designs, which are viewed millions of times a day at Swiss railroad stations. Christian Brändle, Director of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, states, «Thanks to the cooperation between Micasa, SBB and the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, design and railroad enthusiasts now have the opportunity to bring these iconic pictograms into their own homes,» commenting on the collaboration
New Aesthetic Direction for Micasa
The launch of PICTO is a milestone in the reorientation of the Micasa brand. «The collection manifests the essence of the new Micasa design: it is friendly, accessible and exudes optimism,» says Micasa Creative Director Maxime Zenderoudi. Collaborations play a key role in Micasa’s new direction. Zenderoudi adds, «In the future, projects with Swiss brands, designers, artists or institutions will be unveiled on a regular basis, always with the ambition of giving as many people as possible access to high-quality design.»
The iconic PICTO collection is available as of today for a limited time in all Micasa stores and in the online store at www.micasa.ch.
The complete works of Josef Müller-Brockmann have been in the collection of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich since 2014. Large parts of it can be viewed at www.eMuseum.ch.
