The Alpine Theater Company St. Moritz (ATC) will be presenting the play RE:MOZART, a theatrical interpretation of Mozart’s story, in St. Moritz from 17 December to 18 January 2024.
The Alpine Theater Company St. Moritz is an innovative and highly motivated collective made up of passionate theater enthusiasts. They all share a love of the alpine region and have come together with the aim of creating a vibrant theater landscape in the Engadin. The association aims to create a platform for professional and international theater art and to produce high-quality performances. The performances are intended to inspire the local population and visitors. Theater workshops and summer theater camps for children and adults are also planned for the near future, offering the unique opportunity to be on stage with professionals. ATC’s first production is RE:MOZART, which is financed by both public funds and private support.
A New Interpretation of Mozart
RE:MOZART is a fresh interpretation of the world-famous Mozart, based on Alexander Pushkin’s play, Mozart’s letters and targeted research that promises to reveal never-before-seen facts about the mystery of Mozart. The avant-garde, neon-colored costumes, the deliberately simple stage design, the strategic lighting and the artistic integration of music create an emotional impact that this chamber-like performance strives for. Antonio Salieri, a celebrated musician, encounters Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who dramatically changes his life. The deeply devout Salieri, who is overwhelmed by Mozart’s musical brilliance, sees Mozart as an instrument of God and falls into a whirlwind of jealousy and self-doubt. Meanwhile, Mozart sacrifices everything to break free from aristocratic expectations. In a sophisticated game of chess, driven by envy and pride, they challenge each other until the grand finale. RE:MOZART is a modern drama and a profound exploration of freedom and duty and the transformative power of music that takes the audience on an intense emotional journey.
Top-Class Cast
Alexander Albrecht, who grew up partly in St. Moritz, gained international recognition through roles in renowned productions such as the successful Netflix series «The Queen’s Gambit,» the Sky series «Little Birds,» and the UFA series «Kudamm 63». Albrecht is also the artistic director of RE:MOZART.
The role of Salieri is portrayed by Austrian actor Alexander Moitzi, who is known for his international stage engagements at the Metropolitan Opera New York, the Vereinigten Bühnen Wien, the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz München and the Bregenz Festival, among others. Moitzi is also responsible for the concept and realization of the play RE:MOZART.
The production is directed by Zuoz-born actress and director Felicitas Heyerick, who was awarded the canton’s sponsorship prize in 2012 and the city of Chur’s recognition prize in 2017 for her artistic achievements. Heyerick was a director at the Junges Theater Graubünden and is a core member of the Bad Gandersheim Cathedral Festival in Lower Saxony. She has successfully applied her extensive theater experience to directing professional productions.

Their composition highlights Mozart’s genius, rivalry, martyrdom, friendship and emotional development using Mozart’s iconic motifs, which are rearranged and interpreted in a cinematic manner. The music, which lasts around 120 minutes, serves as the third pillar of the production, functioning as a narrator through a playback system that accompanies and reinforces the performance based on numerous cues.
