Making the best pizza outside of Italy, Raffaele Tromiro’s restaurant Napulé was awarded the prestigious «Pizzeria of the Year» award.
Napulé founder and pizzaiolo Raffaele Tromiro was born in Naples, the birthplace of pizza. His great-grandfather, grandfather and father were all pizzaioli. He opened his first pizzeria in Meilen (ZH) in 2015. Raffaele Tromiro has been awarded over 300 prizes to date, including the title of «Pizza World Champion» three times. Tromiro states, «I am delighted to be able to officially call our pizzas the best outside of Italy. This success would not have been possible without my dedicated and creative team.»
Gambero Rosso, which is considered the top Italian restaurant guide that annually recognizes the best Italian restaurants, pizzerias and wine cellars outside of Italy, awarded Napulé with the prestigious «Pizzeria of the Year» prize. Raffaele compares pizza with poetry: «Just as it takes great poets to write a good poem, it takes passionate hands and absolute dedication to create the perfect pizza.» Everything starts with the ingredients of the pizza. The three-time pizza world champion developed the Swiss «Verace Napulé» flour together with Thurgau grain miller and CEO of Meyerhans Mühlen AG, Dominic Meyerhans. He personally selects the other ingredients, such as the mozzarella and tomatoes, in his native Naples. In order for the dough to be light, airy and digestible, he lets it rest for 48 hours at a stable air temperature. When the pizza goes into the oven, it is baked at around 500 degrees for a maximum of 90 seconds. This makes it moist in the middle and gives it a bulging, baked edge.Raffaele’s Success Continues
At the end of October, Raffaele was honored for his craft at the «L’Arcimboldo d’Oro 2023» award ceremony with a prestigious trophy, adding to his collection of over 300 awards. He is among 35 Italian and foreign pizza chefs who have been honored by the food and wine magazine L’Arcimboldo. At the award ceremony, Raffaele Tromiro stated, «I am very grateful for this award, which I can share with other talented pizza chefs. It is an honor for me to be awarded in my hometown and to spread the Neapolitan pizza tradition in Switzerland». Raffaele as Brand Ambassador for Aperol Switzerland
Pizza world champion Raffaele Tromiro serves as the brand ambassador for Aperol Switzerland, the original aperitif.
